These Days.

Cause you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
And she keeps apologizin'
He says "They don't bother me.
I've got 2 babies of my own.
One's 36, one's 23.
Huh, it's hard to believe, but...

You're gonna miss this ...

(I don't usually enjoy country songs but this one hit a chord.)

Last night, instead of bedtime stories, we had a bedtime tickle fight with the girls.

Later, as I was looking through the quick photos that I had taken during those giggling moments, I could hear Lucia sweetly baby-snoring next to me in our bed, I could hear Lacey singing herself to sleep with her "Princess CD" in her room and Lyla was already fast asleep, tucked into her crib.

And I thought - these ARE the moments we're going to miss.
Abby and I have been tired lately. Throw in a few exhausting nights (each girl getting up, crying, for one reason or another) and a few long, rainy days and your spirits can get down. But these ARE the moments - both Abby and I KNOW we will miss these days ... the days of small feet pitter-pattering down the hallway in the early mornings ... the days when Daisy, the dog, made the girls giggle but just licking their toes ... the days Lyla tugs on my legs and looks up at me and yells "MAAAAAAAAA?!?" and won't stop until I pick her up and rest her on my hip ... the days Lacey dances and sings-so-wonderfully-out-of-tune to her favourite songs, pretending to be Cinderella or Giselle, who just *has* to dance with daddy when he gets home from work ... the moments when wee Lucia just stares at you and breaks into the biggest-cutest-baby-smile-ever, just because she hears our voices ...

Yes.

When the girls are grown and gone from home, we will miss these days ever so much.

So for now, bring on the tickle fights ...

Can you hear Lyla full-out-belly-laughing?

AMEN!!!!!!

Too often we are in a hurry to get the house clean, supper made and just keep life on track. When our children ask us to play, we answer with "just a minute or maybe later", then one day they stop asking and you realize that they have grown to be an adult and you would give anything to get those moments back.

I hope I have learned this lesson with my own children, I enjoy every precious moment I spend with them, the good and the bad!!!!
